Q: Does Jesus love Sinners?
A: Dear Sandy,
Thanks so much for such a great question. I'm sorry it has taken me so long to reply. The Bible tells us not only that Jesus loves sinners, but that sinners are the only reason Jesus came to our world. He said "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance" (Luke 5:31-32). The apostle Paul wrote, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" (1 Timothy 1:15), and also that "Christ died for the ungodly… God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:6, 8). The Bible is very clear that God and Jesus love sinners more than we can possibly imagine. But they also hate sin. The Bible tells us that the wrath of God is against "against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men" (Romans 1:18). Notice that His wrath isn't against the men themselves, but against their sin – their ungodliness and unrighteousness. God hates sin because He knows how bad it hurts us, and will ultimately destroy us. The more He loves us, the more He hates sin. But God loves the sinner with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3), so He sent His Son Jesus to "save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21). If you ask Jesus into your heart – Just pray "Jesus, I want you to please come into my heart and wash away my sin, and help me to love you more, and make me obedient to your will" – then Jesus will do it! If any sinner prays that prayer, and then chooses to turn from their sin with the help of Jesus, He saves them! And He will save you and me, too!

Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!

Your friend,
Pastor Howard
