Q: Do you think the world is very close to end because there are earthquakes happening all over the world? The bible says that when earthquakes are happening in the world that means it is getting to be the end of the world.
A: Dear Julia,
You are absolutely right that the Bible tells us earthquakes will be a sign of Jesus’ soon coming. If we look closely at what He actually said, He even gives us a more important clue. In Matthew 24:7-8, Jesus said “there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.” Jesus used birth pains to describe the famines and earthquakes and wars and other signs of His coming. That’s because when the first birth pains come, they are fewer and farther apart. As the birth gets closer, the pains become more intense and more frequent. Some people will say, “But there have always been earthquakes.” That is true. But Jesus is trying to say that earthquakes and other natural disasters, famines, wars, and so on, will be more frequent and more intense. We certainly see that happening all around us. These are sure signs that Jesus’ second coming will be soon. But we don’t know exactly when He will come. This is why He told us to “watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour” (Matthew 25:13). We need to be sure we are ready when Jesus comes by choosing to love and serve Him every day, share His love with those around us, and follow Him wherever He leads us.
Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!

Your friend,
Pastor Howard
