Q: Will there be Animals in Heaven?
A: Dear Jodi,
The Bible doesn’t tell us specifically about heaven, but we know that there will be *lots* of animals in the New Earth! The Bible, speaking of the New Earth, tells us that “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:6-9). So here we have wolves, lambs, leopards, goats, calves, lions, cows, oxen, bears, and snakes, to name a few. And the best part – they won’t hurt or destroy anyone!

One of the best ways to get an idea of life in the new earth is to look at the earth before sin. Were there animals in the Garden of Eden? Of course. Well, Eden was God’s ideal before sin. The New Earth will be Eden all over again, and more! The Bible tells us that we haven’t even come close to imagining all the wonderful things that await us there (see 1 Corinthians 2:9). This is the reward of those who are faithful. Too many people today live for the pleasure of this world instead of waiting for the pleasure of the world to come. The Bible tells us that “By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward” (Hebrews 11:24-26). Did you catch that? Moses was looking to the reward of the faithful, and so he gave up worldly treasures and pleasures and prepared instead for the heavenly treasure. I hope you do, too, Jodi!

Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!
