Elyssa (7)
Q: How come Jesus or Angel never spoke to me?
A: Dear Elyssa,
Don’t be so sure! Jesus is always speaking to us through the Holy Spirit by His word, the Bible, and by the voice of our consciences. He speaks to us through our moms and dads, through our pastors and our teachers. The Bible also tells us that His angels are constantly ministering to us and shielding us from the attacks of the enemy (Psalm 91:11; Hebrews 1:14). Just because we don’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t there. God wants us to believe in Him because He promised He would be with us, not because we can see Him. (2 Corinthians 5:7).

There is a story in the Bible about a time when an enemy army surrounded the house of the prophet Elisha, and his servant walked out of the house and saw “an army with horses and chariots was all around the city.” (2 Kings 6:15). The servant was afraid, and ran to Elisha saying “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” Elisha said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then he prayed “Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” And when the servant looked again, he saw “horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:14-17). There were angels all around them, but they were not visible. There are angels all around us, too – both good and evil – and God’s angels are with us to guide us and protect us.

Now, I have to admit, there are times that I wish I could actually see Jesus and the angels, but even though I can’t, I can see what they have done and what they are doing for me. They are helping me to do what is right, to love others, to be kind. They are protecting me and keeping me and my family safe. They are doing the same for you. And the Bible says that one day soon, if we are faithful, we will be able to see them all with our own eyes. We will see Jesus face to face (Revelation 1:4).

Thanks for writing, and remember, there’s never been a better time to share Jesus!

Your friend,
Pastor Howard
