Q: Why did Eve take the Fruit?
A: Dear Jaden,
You ask a good question. Why did Eve take the fruit instead of obeying God? We could ask the question this way – Why do we ever disobey our moms and dads? Why do we ever do anything that we know is bad? It is for the same reason. The devil told Eve that if she ate the fruit, she would be “like God”. He told her it would be good for her to eat the fruit. He told her she would be happy if she disobeyed God. He told her life would be better if she ate the fruit. Of course, they were all lies. But it doesn’t matter – Eve believed them. And so she did what the devil said, only to find out that his promises weren’t true.

The devil does the same thing to us. He tempts us to think that if we eat that cookie that mom told us not to eat, we will be happier. So we disobey, only to find out that it didn’t make us happier at all. What God wants us to do is to learn that He really loves us, and only asks us to do the things that He knows will make us happy. He wants us to believe His truth instead of the devil’s lies. He wants us to trust Him instead of Satan, and the word for that trust is FAITH. When we have faith in God, trusting in His word, then we can’t be tricked by Satan’s lies. Just as Eve could have ignored the devil and listened to God, so we should learn to ignore the devil and listen to God, too.

Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!

Your friend,
Pastor Howard
