Q: No man can serve two masters?
A: Dear Janice,
Thanks for a great question! Jesus said “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other” (Mt 6:24). What Jesus meant is that some people think they can choose a little bit of both sides. They think they can live for God some of the time, obeying Him and doing what’s right, while they live for themselves other times, doing what they want instead of what God wants. And they think because they serve God some of the time, they will go to heaven. They didn’t think they were serving Satan just because they weren’t doing what God wanted them to do. What Jesus wanted them to understand is that when we don’t choose to follow God, we have made a choice to follow God’s enemy, even if we don’t think of it that way. There are only two sides – God’s and Satan’s. The only people who will be counted as God’s people in the last days are the ones who have decided to follow God, obeying His commandments and living for Him. All others will be included on the enemy’s side, and will be destroyed by the brightness of Jesus’ coming. This is a warning to us not to put off our choice to follow Jesus until some “better time”. Now is the time to choose to live for Jesus, and He will count us as His people when He comes again.

Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!

Your friend,
Pastor Howard
