Q: Kids are always teasing me and i don't know why. Why do kids tease other kids when their popular and everything else?
A: Dear Samantha,
Thanks for a really good question!

I can assure you that much of the teasing you get now will go away when you are older, but not all of it. The main reason people tease others is to make themselves feel better about themselves. I know because the kids who are doing the teasing are often popular, it seems like they feel very good about themselves already. But really, the way they feel about themselves is based on what other people think. If they tease someone so that people laugh, they get attention, and it helps them to feel better about themselves. The problem is that they are preparing themselves for failure. If they start now worrying so much about what other people think, when they get older they will never be able to stand up for what is right.

One of Satan’s most successful ways to get people to compromise their faith has been through teasing, or “mocking,” them. That’s how he tempted Peter to deny Jesus. He caused some people to make fun of Him. King Zedekiah, the last king of Israel, didn’t stand up for what was right because he was worried that the people would mock him, or make fun of him. The devil tried this on Jesus, but Jesus wasn’t worried about what others thought about Him. He was only concerned about what His Father thought of Him. We also should not worry about what other people think or say about us as much as what God thinks and says about us. The God of the universe – the One who created all things, and who owns everything, and has all power – He thinks we are special. So special, in fact, that He sent His only Son to get us back. If the most important Being in the universe thinks that much about us, then we don’t need to worry about what others think. We should pray for them, that God will help them to stop worrying about impressing other people and start living for Him.

Thanks for writing, and remember, there's never been a better time to share Jesus!

Your friend,
Pastor Howard
